DeWalt introduces the 20v MAX Jobsite LED Spotlight. It offers three clear LED lights and one red LED light to illuminate dark work areas. It has a pivoting head and handy carrying features. Team FIN tested the spotlight and rated it on a scale of 1 to 5.
The spotlight features two lumen settings. On the 1,000-light output setting, DeWalt claims the light offers maximum brightness for up to 1,525 feet. Although Team FIN says the spotlight provides bright long-distance lighting, they question whether it could illuminate up to the distance DeWalt claims. The LED has a wide, balanced range that covers a pretty big area. However, there is no way to narrow or widen the spotlight’s focus to gain better distance or illuminate a larger area.
The 90-lumen red LED preserves battery and aids night vision. Close up, Team FIN says the red cast helps a little in seeing terrain, but the light isn’t overly bright. According to DeWalt, research shows the rods in our eyes are responsible for night vision, and red light helps keep night vision from being compromised. Regardless, Team FIN prefers the clear light setting, unless wanting to save battery life.
Turn as needed
The spotlight’s head pivots from 0 to 90 degrees. While working on machinery, Team FIN had no problems directing light where it was needed. The tool is cordless and lightweight and includes a hanging hook and belt hook. The spotlight has a water- and dust-resistance seal, and the LEDs are encased in an overmolded, nonmarking lens cover that protects them. The light provides a sure grip when hand-held and balances on flat surfaces, no matter how the head is pivoted.
Rated: 5 out of 5.
The spotlight (DCL043) costs $89 (without battery or charger). Visit dewalt.com.
