1. Public showing
On the heels of the Detroit Auto Show and the Las Vegas Home Builders Show, the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado made its way to Louisville, Ky., for its third public showing. GM officials allowed Farm Industry News Senior Editor Jodie Wehrspann behind the ropes to get a close-up look at this brand-new half-ton truck on display at the 2013 National Farm Machinery Show.
2. Stronger, smarter
GM says its 2014 Silverado is designed to be stronger, smarter and more capable than last year’s model. This one is painted Blue Granite Metallic. The company has reengineered everything from interior and exterior styling to ergonomics and performance. The pickup is coming out in the summer of this year. MPG figures have not been released.
The tailgate is spring-loaded, making it easy to lift. A step has been added to the bumper to make the cargo bed easier to access. Side rails feature hand grips so you can hoist yourself up.
4. Trailer connectors
Below the bumper are both 7- and 4-pin trailer connectors to accommodate different sizes and types of implements and trailers.
5. Rear legroom
A redesigned cab offers more rear legroom for comfort and wider door openings to make it easier to access.
6. Better visibility
Instrument controls have been rearranged on top for better visibility. A heated steering wheel keeps fingers nimble as you navigate the embedded controls.
7. High-tech updates
A two-bin center console provides USB ports, a new 110-volt outlet, storage space for electronic devices and vertical slots for hanging files or storing a laptop.
In front of this full-size, half-ton truck you’ll see a taller power dome hood and chrome grille accented by the truck's iconic, stacked headlamps.
9. Cargo bed
The cargo bed is made of roll-formed steel to provide extra durability.
