1. Capstan PinPoint nozzle-by-nozzle system
The PinPoint system from Capstan builds on the company's blended pulse-width modulation technology (PWM) used in the SharpShooter system, as well as AIM Command, available on Case IH Patriot sprayers. The system uses pulsing solenoids at each nozzle body to provide constant spray pressure independent of speed, while allowing a wide range of application rates from a single spray tip.
While still using PWM, PinPoint is a totally new system that uses CAN (controller area network) wiring and associated microprocessors to control individual nozzles. The tiny microprocessors arrayed along the boom – each of which controls nine nozzles – are connected to a hub at the back of the sprayer. In turn, the hub is connected to the PinPoint controller in the cab, which can run the system independently, or integrate with an existing rate controller.
“The two features PinPoint offers are individual nozzle overlap control, and individual nozzle flow control,” says Jeff Grimm, Capstan operations director. “The system will not spray an area that already has been covered. And whenever the sprayer is turning, the sprayer puts out more flow at the end of the boom than at the center, so the effective rate is the same.”
Capstan introduced PinPoint in 2011 on a limited basis and has increased availability since then. The suggested retail price for PinPoint for a 90- to 120-foot boom is $25,000 to $30,000. Systems also are available for anhydrous ammonia and liquid fertilizer applicators. For information, contact Capstan Ag Systems at [email protected] or visit www.capstanag.com .
2. Unverferth 2750 seed tender
Farmers look over Unverferth 2750 Seed Runner tenders for bulk seed handling. The tenders are designed for loading and unloading convenience. The cupped and cleated conveyor provides gentle handling of seed. Every Unverferth seed tender features a trademarked white and beige color scheme for a distinctive look on any farm operation.
3. Parker 1348 grain cart with tracks
The Parker 1348 grain cart is available with a 36-in.-wide by 105-in. track system that consists of steel idler wheels for a smooth ride over rough terrain. This model features an exclusive in-line auger design that force feeds the vertical auger for unloading times of more than 12 bu./sec. Cart capacity is 1,325 bu. 4. Filled aisles
All three levels of the Des Moines Convention Center were filled with exhibits and attendees, even on the coldest days.
5. PLA sprayer
A new self-propelled sprayer from Argentina drew crowds of interested farmers. The PLA sprayers include six models that are equipped with Deutz engines ranging from 110 to 290 hp and mechanical transmissions, except for the largest model that has a hydrostatic 4x4 transmission. The new sprayers feature many precision guidance and application features, including automatic spray height control. For more information, contact American Resources, 602 W. Main St., Lake Mills, IA 50450, 800/568-4205, email [email protected] , or visit www.pla.com.ar
6. Rite Way land roller
Land rollers have become popular soil bed tools, especially for soybeans. Rite Way displayed a 30-ft. F3 model with a forward unfolding system. The model features large-diameter drums that will press rocks into the ground and reduce crop residue when used in the fall on cornstalks and soybean stubble. Visit www.ritewaymfg.com
7. Quality Plus 1600 Series Conveyor
The 1600 Series Conveyor from Quality Plus features the Reverse Revolution Technology that gently conveys grain. The reverse technology allows a greater incline angle (45 degrees) without losing efficiency. The conveyor is available in lengths from 12 to 72 ft. in 6-ft. increments. Visit www.qualityplusmfg.com .
