House Energy Committee continues review of RFS

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is continuing its bipartisan review [5] of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman (D-CA) are leading the effort to review the law and its implementation and are soliciting input from interested stakeholders.

The Committee released a [6]white paper [6] to address the impacts of the RFS on U.S. agriculture. The impact of the RFS on the rural economy and agriculture has been debated as renewable fuel targets continue to rise. The RFS has strengthened demand for domestic corn and soybeans and these crop prices have risen, the Committee reports, adding, “Some argue that these price increases are directly attributable to the RFS, while others question the law’s effect on crop and food prices.”

The committee is requesting that interested stakeholders respond to the white paper by April 29, 2013, to [email protected] [7].
