FarmLogs has announced that it’s launching a new soil data layer to its services, which will provide free online soil maps for every field in the U.S. The maps are color-coded and high-resolution; and they show soil texture zones overlaid onto satellite imagery. Growers can see which areas are sandy, clay, or loamy, and they can observe slope of the land, too.
The information will help growers understand what seed varieties to plant and where. Nutrient management will also be enhanced.
“We are incredibly excited that we get to lead the charge in putting such useful data into farmers’ hands,” said Jesse Vollmar, CEO and co-founder of FarmLogs. “Understanding the makeup of your fields’ soils leads to better nutrient management, more soil and water conservation and higher yields.”
