The U.S. Marine Corps Southwest Region Fleet Transportation Team (SWRFT) is the West Coast’s biggest biodiesel user (consuming about 1.3 million gallons of biodiesel annually), according to the Contract Information System (CIS). SWRFT has used biodiesel to fuel about 50 semi-tractor trailers which move tactical equipment around Southern California Marine Corps installations, according to the National Biodiesel Board, which is featuring the SWRFT and other biodiesel users—from average car drivers to professional sports teams--at its Web site (www.biodiesel.org/resources/users).
Since 2003, the SWRFT has reduced consumption of petroleum diesel fuel by 20 percent by using B20. The fuel blend is said to have had no ill effect on horsepower, fuel economy or engine performance, but has resulted in a 20 percent reduction in diesel engine emissions and particulate matter generation.
Have a great Independence Day holiday!
