Product demo: Central tire inflation system

At the 2016 National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville KY, Agco had on display a Challenger 900E tractor equipped with Michelin MachXBib tires and a new tire inflation system that automatically adjusts tire inflation pressures according to driving conditions.

Agco will offer the CTIS as a new option on its Challenger 900E series tractor equipped with Michelin MachXBib tires beginning in March. The product, made by Precision Inflation, won a Farm Industry News FinOvation Award in 2015.

The Central Tire Inflation System, or CTIS, is an add-on product that fits inside the plumbing of a tire to adjust inflation pressures. An air pump delivers air to the tire, the amount of which will depend on the conditions. For over-the-road operation, a higher tire pressure is needed to navigate safely and to extend wear. In the field, a low tire pressure delivers traction and horsepower to the ground while minimizing soil compaction.

The driver activates the system at the touch of a button on the control panel when switching from road to field.

James Crouch, farm marketing segment manager with Michelin North America, demonstrated the system, which you can see here.
