Meat and milk from cloned cows, pigs and goats are safe to eat, according to a preliminary report from the Food and Drug Administration. FDA recently released the results of a risk assessment on animal cloning and found no difference between food from clones and food from conventional livestock. If the two products are indistinguishable, FDA cannot require labeling.
FDA's report is preliminary and some experts speculate the agency will not give final approval of food from clones for at least another year. Currently, livestock producers are adhering to a voluntary ban on meat and milk from cloned animals.
