Monsanto to add dicamba-tolerant trait to RR soybeans

Monsanto announced at the 2012 Commodity Classic a dicamba-tolerant trait that will be stacked with Genuity RR 2Yield soybeans. The new soybean line will be called RR 2 Xtend. Accompanying the new trait will be a dicamba and glyphosate herbicide premix called Roundup Xtend for pre and post applications.

Monsanto plans to offer in 2014 a dicamba-tolerant trait called Roundup Ready 2 Xtend. The new trait will also be stacked with Monsanto's Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield trait. The double-traited seed product will be the first double stack for soybeans in the industry, according to Monsanto. The company made the announcement at the 2012 Commodity Classic, in Nashville, Tenn.

Accompanying the new dicamba soybean trait will be a dicamba and glyphosate herbicide premix called Roundup Xtend. Roundup Xtend will be available for application before planting and over-the-top in season. The new herbicide offers dual modes of action to help control glyphosate-resistant weeds.

Monsanto anticipates offering the new trait and herbicide in 2014. Once approved, the trait will be available in all Monsanto soybean brands and through licenses to independent seed companies. Visit www.monsanto.com.
